CityNews – The final 11 candidates for the first Thailand Excellent Coffee Competition are all from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
The ASEAN Coffee Industry Development Conference (ACID 2018), a collaborative project of a coffee industry in ASEAN that aims to enhance and develop whole supply chain of coffee industry, has this year hosted its first competition to raise awareness of coffee quality in the region.
The competition promises international standards by using the Specialty Coffee Association of America and Cup of Excellence criteria set by the Alliance of Coffee Excellence. The competition is designed to raise awareness of coffee and motivate coffee farmers to promote their products.
The response from coffee farmers has exceeded all expectations, according to the committee who claim that over 70 samples were submitted.
11 samples have been chosen to compete in the final round, with six of the samples coming from Chiang Mai and five from Chiang Rai.
Shieh Chen Hsiao, International Jury Cup of Excellence, Taiwan stated that many Thai coffee beans have surpassed the scores with some scoring very high. In the last few years, Thai coffee has remarkably improved, claims Hsiao.
